"Omnicosmic"(stop motion collab film) fabrication

I lead the fabrication of the interior spaceship set in this short film. The panels were designed in adobe illustrator, laser cut, and hand assembled. The plastic detailing was glued onto wood backing with strategically placed holes that allowed light to shine through in controlled areas. We ended up using one and a half interior sets in order to finish production within the 10 week timeframe.

Stars

The stars were first sculped with epoxy putty, and then the shapes were vacuformed into a thin plastic. We then attached the plastic stars to lights that are typically used for model train sets (big shout out to my brother and his model railroads for the inspiration for this idea). Finally, thick metal wires were attached to the lights with gaffers tape in order to tie down the stars and bend them to the perfect position for the shot.

Joystick

We dubbed this piece "The Joystick" but it's technically a control stick. I used a Dremel to carve the stick out of hard foam. I then made a silicone mold in order to make plastic casts of the shape. I then painted the sticks and attached them to a piece of wood in order to tie it down in the set.

Cockpit seat

I made a mock seat out of cardboard that was three separate pieces that slot into each other. We needed to be able to easily disassemble the seat for animator accessibility since our puppet was anchored through the bottom piece. I then assisted with the mechanical drawings for the final product and handed off the task of carving, mold making, and casting to one of my teammates.
